County and city governments make decisions every day that affect businesses, many of which prove burdensome. From zoning issues to merchandising and marketing restrictions, local ordinances are becoming more important to business and industry. Alabama localities have very limited home rule and, thus, many local laws must be approved by the state legislature through local legislation. Many interest groups are pursuing political agendas at the local level to avoid the state and federal political gridlock.
